Hey just a reminder that it only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove and replace Chuck Schumer as minority leader. They don't do it because the majority of Senate Democrats approve of the way he does politics.

Just have to hope that with each enormously discrediting Buttigieg video clip that drops the constituency who thinks this orotund technocratic gobbledygook and abject courtliness with billionaire ghouls are what we need in our ghastly necropolitical moment will dwindle--but not holding my breath.

Hypnotic version of Ali Ekber Çiçek's "Derdim Çoktur" by Gülcan Opel (certainly known to many Turkish folks living abroad in Germany in the 1970s) with a rad solo electric saz (I think?) intro.

yeah why might it be harder for someone to break 50% in a three-way race versus a two-way race. obviously it has something to do with ideology.

Zohran Mamdani campaigned a lot and appears not to hate the voters whose support he's seeking. Here's what other Democrats can learn from his unorthodox strategy.

As someone who believes that each day's bloom is off the rose by 10:00 a.m. at the latest, its promise gone, the best hours over, the thrill faded, with nothing but stale afternoon time and then darkness ahead of us, I'm quite pleased with the switch: light early, darkness later. DST is for ~nerds~.

A Halloween-appropriate moment from a favorite opera, basically an hour and a half of non-stop screaming, though with tenderly lyrical (recognition scene) and mordantly mischievous passages (waltz motif as Elektra beckons Aegisth inside the palace to his death) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jED...

Sleepy: any kind of plastic skeleton, splayed in odalisque poses or seated jauntily in lawn chairs in ski gear, & above all the 10-foot Skeletor variety
Creepy: wee illuminated Hello Kitty skeleton inflatable figurines twitching slightly in the wind

If you attribute this novel's reductive heteronormativity, rigid sexual polarities, & preoccupation with male penetration as the central experience of life to the unreliable narrator--

Bought this book online from a Pennsylvania bookstore for $8.16 plus shipping; it arrived this week. The bookstore's website noted that the book was signed by the author but did not mention that it was inscribed to Susan Sontag, most--but evidently not all--of whose personal library is at UCLA?

A lot of people your age, some you thought were friends, who put all their chips on their youth lasting forever will now start the long process of curdling into the bitter nasty false-nostalgia-poisoned reactionary assholes they always were somewhere deep inside. Ignore them & take up a hobby.

If the immigration enforcement apparatus of the US were its own national military, it would be the 13th most heavily funded in the world. This puts it higher than the national militaries of Poland, Italy, Australia, Turkey, Canada, and Spain — and just below Israel.

Listening to Crespin & Chauvet's performance of this duet w/Prêtre and thinking, yes, of course, perfect, idiomatically French, with buoyant tempi, immaculate diction (although with an Énée who seems quite a tenore di grazia, more a Nemorino than an Énée)--
