Michael D Higgins, with his wife Sabina, has left Áras an Úachtaráin for the final time as president.
He was given a guard of honour by members of the Sanctuary Runners, a charity of which he is patron.
The President’s term of office ends at midnight.

The UN says October saw the highest number of Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in nearly 20 years of tracking that violence. More than half the attacks targeted olive harvesters.

Just finished UCD open day… Gave a talk and took 25 minutes of questions, then saw 100s of students at our information desk. No matter what the media will tell you, it turns out young people still want to think about, create, and play music…

I really hope the guards catch that blue hoody guy that set fire to the IPAS centre in Drogheda, and as he’s being led from station to van to courthouse etc, the good people of Drogheda throw rotten fruit and stale milk etc. at him like in days of yore. What a despicable human…
