The scariest part of all? “Outside of mining, most other effects — including tourism, commuting, and general freight handling — are best described as redistributive rather than generative,” the report concludes.

Ready to be scared CENTSLESS? This project is a bad deal for Southeast Alaskans. While the report claims an expected 18% reduction in travel time and a resulting 4-8% increase in ridership, a look at the expected costs to travelers paints a grimmer picture:

After a break, there will be a discussion of the policy landscape and possible solutions and an opportunity for community input. MC Pat Race will lead us through the full program, including live music during breaks and time to visit host organization tables for more information.

We want to change this. On October 8 from 5-7:30 at the JACC, we’ll be hosting a town hall event with our partners to call for legislation to require cleaner fuels. Don’t worry, we’ll send more reminders!

They simply choose to go with the heavily polluting HFO because, you know, it’s cheaper.

The solution? It’s actually pretty simple. Call for these ships to burn clean fuel in Southeast Alaska. This legislation already exists in the waters surrounding Glacier Bay National Park, which means all these ocean-going ships have the capability to burn cleaner fuel.
