What do you think? Is this plan a good use of taxpayer money to support our ferries? Or is it more of a nightmare on a road to a really inconvenient and unwanted ferry terminal?

The scariest part of all? “Outside of mining, most other effects — including tourism, commuting, and general freight handling — are best described as redistributive rather than generative,” the report concludes.

“...That gain would be partially offset by a 7% increase in travel costs — mostly driving related — that would reduce overall ridership 1% to 2%, according to the analysis,” as reported by the Juneau Independent (Link in bio).

Ready to be scared CENTSLESS? This project is a bad deal for Southeast Alaskans. While the report claims an expected 18% reduction in travel time and a resulting 4-8% increase in ridership, a look at the expected costs to travelers paints a grimmer picture:

It’s spooky season, which means the ghouls and goblins are on the loose, the scary costumes are completed — and the Dunleavy administration has released a horrifying economic report for the proposed Cascade Point ferry terminal.

Washington friends, mark your calendars!

On November 20 we’ll be co-hosting a presentation by Amy Gulick on her stunning book “Salmon in the Trees.” Join us at the Burke Museum from 6-8 p.m. to learn more about Amy’s photography and hear stories from beyond the pages.

It’s with great sadness that SEACC is sharing the passing of our beloved board member and friend, Geeneenéikh, Raymond “Ray” Sensmeier. Ray has served on the SEACC board representing his community of Yakutat since 2009.

TONIGHT!

Join us for Cleaner Fuel Brighter Future Town Hall starting at 5 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center or online via Zoom — the program will start at 5:30 with a panel discussion on the heavy fuel oil pollution issue, impacts, and the importance of protecting Alaska’s marine waters.
October 8, 2025 at 8:38 PM
We want to change this. On October 8 from 5-7:30 at the JACC, we’ll be hosting a town hall event with our partners to call for legislation to require cleaner fuels. Don’t worry, we’ll send more reminders!

They simply choose to go with the heavily polluting HFO because, you know, it’s cheaper.

The solution? It’s actually pretty simple. Call for these ships to burn clean fuel in Southeast Alaska. This legislation already exists in the waters surrounding Glacier Bay National Park, which means all these ocean-going ships have the capability to burn cleaner fuel.

Countless marine animals native to Southeast Alaska rely on our waters being clean for survival. Heavy fuel oil use in large marine vessels pollutes our waters, leaving them with an unhealthy environment.

Juneau, we know you have other things on your mind right now, but mark your l calendars because we’re having a potluck on Thursday, August 21, at Eagle Beach (the last day use shelter) — don’t worry, we’ll send a reminder. We can’t wait to see you!

Have you heard? Dunleavy’s plan for transportation is… shady. Let’s talk about it:

A problematic mine that has left environmental scars on southeast Alaskan ecosystems is in the process of attempting to continue their onslaught of destruction — and we need your help to stop it.
