The epitome of FSU’s “Unconquered” slogan:

But Askins said this won't slow her down in finishing her studies and pursuing her dreams.
"I'm glad to be with my family, glad to keep moving forward. I've got an internship lined up. I'm so ready to go for it," she said.

In 1693, the remarkable journey of John Harrison began in Foulby near Wakefield. Harrison, a joiner, inventor, and clockmaker, would go on to solve one of the most vexing problems of the 18th century: determining a ship's longitude at sea, ultimately saving countless lives. His pioneering work

Sad to see the great Irish poet Michael Longley (1939-2025), died yesterday.

Far from the perimeter
Of watercress and berries,
In the middle of the field
I stand talking to myself,

While the ash keys scatter
And the gates creak open
And the barbed wire rusts
To hay-ropes strung with thorns.

Premieres on PBS stations on April 8.

I was filmed Feb 4-5, 2004, for some commentary segments. And while I haven’t received an official confirmation from the filmmakers, a friend who saw the final cut assured that I escaped the cutting room floor. I’m excited to see it. And I’m thrilled it exists.

Today in New Orleans was magical. We have our frustrating moments, but seeing the joy across the city was beautiful. Snowball fights. All of the incredible photos. FUN. I'm so grateful that fate dropped me here. I really did mean it when I said today felt like Mardi Gras. 🥹

Traces of Texas reader Scott Nix kindly shared this nice photo of the Pig Hip sandwich shop in Amarillo circa 1931. I love the slogan: They made their way by the way they're made. And they have hamburgers and chili, too. What more could a Texan ask for?

Thanks, Scott. Great photo!

If you all have seen footage of Carter's funeral from Maranatha Baptist Church this afternoon, it looks exactly like so many little Baptist churches in South Georgia. Like,I know what it feels like, what it smells like, its our roots. Still amazing a man could go from Plains, GA to the White House.
