While EV ranges were short, phev had a place as city cars that could manage occasional long trips without jeopardy or inconvenience. Now given the tech improvements it’s difficult to see the point.

That’s fair enough - my thinking is that the rationale that it’s public charging inadequacy that’s holding things back is in a bit of a media / publicity loop. For 70% of the population it’s not much of a barrier, but it dominates newspaper reporting and is very much in the public consciousness.

This is about 70% of driving households that have off street parking though. I agree on the diagnosis for those without off-street btw, it’s just that this barrier applies to a large minority, so cannot in itself be the source of softening demand for the majority who have parking available.

Isn’t this a case of enthusiasm being suppressed by consumer spending being slowed by rising mortgage costs and a jump in interest rates?

Is it really true that sales have plateaued though? The rate of sales increase slowed. Also isn’t the trouble in the car industry inevitable during technology change and can’t predominantly be blamed on EV demand? Some manufacturers are using it to lobby against policy in a disingenuous way.

Holding the door for someone is a common courtesy. Stopping your car + not hitting someone with it while they cross a street is not an act of kindness or courtesy to be praised but the bare minimum of responsibility as a driver. Let's not mistake responsibility for courtesy.
