the competing copyright claims surrounding Michael Lockshin's Master and Margarita adaptation are f'cking wild. It's kept it from having a U.S. distributor (recently were able to start showing it in some places in Europe) for a few years, and it's definitely not only about the politics.

Putin has already put in place constantly escalating, increasingly dire consequences for any Russian scholar or scientist who works with any Western colleague or institution so why not reciprocate?
(Although I doubt these idiots are even thinking of Russia here.)

NYT editors put "Claudine Gay" in "top 5 featured on the New York Times homepage Dec 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 22, 25"

(While they put Trump calling for Constitution's "termination" on page 15 and his chief of staff's "tyrant" warning on 12)

Christopher Rufo openly bragged about the plans!

… while their friends & family members might seem to be the fortunate ones, they're haunted by the sense they are only there as background, as if they are extras in their own lives.

A great deal of tension is caused by the fact that while almost everybody has the same rhythm to their lives and weirdly similar hobbies some of them are dying of ultra-specific forms of cancer while others just have eczema, which is now in remission in any case.

Midway through my script based on the premise of a (Truman Show-esque) contained reality where the inhabitants are all people in pharmaceutical commercials interacting with people from other pharmaceutical commercials without any of them being aware that they are in a constructed reality.

the fact that they were *worried* that the R's would nuke the filibuster and wanted to save it might in fact be the depressing part; i.e. – they were afraid to continue their filibuster lest the GOP ban the filibuster, resulting in a situation where only Repubs use the filibuster when it matters.
