When the Lines in Four Directions was suddenly removed from its downtown setting, concerns were raised about the sculpture’s whereabouts. Now the U.S. General Services Administration says the piece deteriorated and needed a complete rebuild.

But the administration said the much-needed fabrication work has not been approved or funded, despite pulling the artwork off its home on West Jackson Boulevard.
