Friends: Who in publishing is still looking for a summer intern? I’m mentoring an awesome college junior who’s turning over every rock in search of a remote opportunity with a small press or lit mag. She has a funding source for ~20 hours/week and just needs a yes.

Writing is fine. It's literally the most embarrassing thing on earth to emotionally put yourself on full display for rejection or validation, but it's good. I enjoy it. I find it therapeutic to horrify myself.

I get why we have the “shitty first draft” language (anxiety & pressure reduction, great), but oh how I hate it.
What about a tender first draft. What about a fresh first draft. Dewy. Just spun. A spiderweb. A draft of sunlight. A pile of leaves. You rake your fingers through them and they rustle.
