Way too many women and girls are iron deficient. We need better (probably universal) screening.

We also need to promote that anemia is a LATE sign of iron deficiency (i.e. normal hemoglobin does not rule out iron deficiency).

Cool #PedPC #hapc article on goals of care documentation. I often wonder how the 21st Century Act might affect this moving forward…

What he said…#Pediatricians we have a problem.
Major crisis with dwindling #Pediatricians and Peds #subspecialists.

#PedsPulm: only 48% of positions, 36% of programs filled. Similar for others.

Need fairer compensation that reflects growing complexity. Not sustainable if pay is 40% of what adult medicine makes.

Our, and other’s, research points to a lot of positives of #SoMe for kids with serious illness (community, support, inclusion). There are downsides (we found bullying). It seems to me the focus should be on safety instead of age-based bans. Guess we’ll see how this turns out…
Breaking News: Australia has passed a sweeping ban on social media for children under 16, one of the world’s most comprehensive measures aimed at safeguarding young people from potential hazards online. nyti.ms/3VbiGzc
Australia Bans Social Media for Everyone Under 16
The law sets a minimum age for users of platforms like TikTok, Instagram and X. How the restriction will be enforced online remains an open question.

HPV #vaccine out there saving lives and preventing morbidity from cervical cancer. Got both of my kids vaccinated right on schedule for this because their pediatrician recommended it, it’s smart parenting, and we ain’t doing cervical cancer in this family.

Cervical cancer mortality in US women younger than 25 years significantly declined between 2016 and 2021, likely due to the widespread adoption of HPV vaccination.

“What would it have meant for Orli’s last year if her medical team had encouraged us to meet her where she was?”

Oof.

Grateful for how far we’ve come and what we’ve built. Recognize how far we have to go.

Every child should have access to high quality #PedPC no matter where they live.

Hi Bluesky! Happy to make my first post here about our #PedPC team recognizing National Children’s Grief Awareness Day. Our sibling bereavement program helps over 500 kids cope with the death of a sibling through support groups, events, and a summer camp. I’m so proud of them! 🦋
