Filler words are very common in casual speech. Unless you are a professional speaker and/or performing a rehearsed script there are gonna be a number of “um”s

The cute or the dark doesn’t work? The books have moments of whimsy but I wouldn’t call cute. (The Black Cauldron is the second book and the movie is an awful amalgamation of it and the first book - The Book of Three - that misses the depth of the books completely)
