Not so promising in the eyes of Cliodynamics, with a majority that has little civilization experience & a history of social capital rotting inequality in the form of Apartheid it should be no surprise South Africa's future would be grim at least in the near to medium term.

Without an alien "other" to dwarf the relatively minor differences between Greek city-states, they continued to focus on fighting/dehumanizing each other with Sparta famously enslaving fellow Greek city-states & uniquely/horrifically declaring war on defenseless subjects

Members originally had no disagreements with imperial expansion; it was an imperial nation in its first stages.

Silly, that's not why states (Which the league can be considered) rise & fall.

What happened was a smaller-scale version of this. Once the Persians were gone, Athens acted selfishly which strained & shattered the alliance.

It's not ridiculous, Russia has no reason not to be maximalist & Ukraine/Europe is in no position to resist...

If Ukraine & Europe were smart, they would accept.

This isn't about the merits of Trump, this isn't about Russia, this is about minimizing Ukrainian pain & recognizing. We. Fucked. Up.
November 20, 2025 at 6:13 AM
I suppose this is a factor I've been ignoring.

Even if Europe wasn't delusional, Ukraine might press on to disaster...
November 20, 2025 at 5:58 AM
It is not mind-blowing.

Russia has NO reason to soften its position, we fucked up, this is bad. Europe isn't serious. US doesn't care/is unreliable due to instability. Ukraine is doomed.
November 20, 2025 at 5:34 AM
Material isn't enough; if the West was truly serious about giving Ukraine "all it needs" it would be gearing up for war.

It's not.

This is a slow-motion D I S A S T E R.

Ehh, in Hungary, populism is driven by loss of faith in Neoliberal economics, the Őszöd speech leak contributing to the concurrent loss of faith in previous government, liberal value clashes with the EU, & lingering resentment at the breakup of Greater Hungary in the Treaty of Trianon.

((Also forgot to mention that war is not the only form of competition that unifies people, people are unified by common threats and common gains & in the modern industrialized world of high-speed comms & comparasons, industrial self-development can serve as such, competition without war.)) /END

This isn't an issue of skin, given the effect of primarily southern Roman core Italian immigration on US crime rates.

Finally, there is a limit to the labor pool before wages start being harmed so some immigration/migration control is good. 5/6

Ignoring such issues, even if well intentioned, do not make them go away, that said unlike with racism, which is pseudoscientific, these scientific facts allow a solution.

Theoretically, outside competition could help migrants & natives to see each other as kin, which occurred in the US. 4/x

Of course, this isn't an inherent migration issue but an origin issue.

The opposite can also happen & has happened in history, low social capital societies can see influxes of higher social capital (Or Asabiya) people, which can lead to envy & foreign-born domination conflicts.

Migration is a complex issue.

Societies as coherent (hierarchal meta-) groups require clear "us vs them" boundaries, and it's human nature for unassimilated norm breakers to be viewed with suspicion. 1/x

As well as long slow effects of inequalities like slavery &/or lack of a unifying competitive threat which then lead to the main factors in the slide. (Also external conquest counts I suppose.)

Contrary to pop belief, environmental shocks are minor factors.

Eh, democracy is mainly good at placing limits on leaders to prevent them from taking advantage of the system at the majority's expense.

Political instability, the shattering of the hand, can occur in any society through these factors.
November 19, 2025 at 6:50 AM
A state cannot be held together by force alone; that is why states also tend to legitimize their actions.

B. A. D. The "if" of Russian concessions, as unrealistic as it may read, is ultimately more likely than Ukraine actually pulling this off, I'm afraid.
November 19, 2025 at 6:36 AM
Ukraine is in a very bad position, and Europe isn't serious about helping (Or even protecting itself, much less helping) while America won't even pretend to be serious & is too unstable to be relied on regardless, what other choice is there?
November 19, 2025 at 6:30 AM
What tends to happen is they are replaced by other candidates within the society.

When conditions are favorable for the elite, they tend to be overproduced, leading to a pool of "outsider" losers who are willing to take the position.
November 19, 2025 at 6:07 AM
While that's an understandable sentiment, it's the wrong decision.

Ultimately, what UK citizens truly desire, the end of Neoliberal policy, would also help prevent any further instability, fragmentation, & collapse of the EU.

Germany's corporate tax rate stat is a ticking time bomb, it's next.
November 19, 2025 at 5:40 AM
While Neoliberal Elites may believe their own justification that a meritocratic lack of welfare norms is not just good for them but for their society, at the end of the day, they're still rewarding themselves with unfair advantages.
November 19, 2025 at 4:59 AM
Of course, as long as it's a sacrifice for the common good.

If it's a sacrifice for the elite, that's a different situation...

(Of course, states are hierarchical "groups of groups of groups" and without a common threat to safety these groups will start fighting amongst themselves, why states decline and fall.

In Britain's case, the Pan-European elite ignored the populace allowing contrarian losers to take advantage/over.)
November 19, 2025 at 3:59 AM
From this, states will expand & act opportunistically & pragmatically within limits, E. G. some losses in territory may be "worth it" while land considered sacred to the common experience or containing one's fellows is harder to ignore.

Collectively intelligent else run out of land & vanish! 2/2
