I always experience a bit of cognitive dissonance when I run across the work of this particular commentator because he has such a common Mennonite surname.

Same — and it seems like that experience is universal. Even the AbEx authority who curated the exhibition had not heard of 2-3 of the artists before embarking on the book project that led to the show.

It’s a lovely and rather overwhelming show — I’m trying to spend time with it as much as possible.

I was impressed by the ambition of this exhibition, which reminded me of a show of/inspired by paño art that I saw at the Museum of Mexican Art this spring — and also of the work of Justin Favela, whose cartonería will soon be on view at Wichita State’s Ulrich Museum
