As deftly written as the book is—creating a literary landscape out of East Berlin: the novel also feels often predictable to me? The older man/younger woman affair feels a bit stale; it is certainly not breaking any new ground as a narrative.

#Kairos -the 2024 International Booker Prize winner— presents an intriguing view an affair between the older, married Hans, the complicated 18 year-old Katharina, all set within the last few years of the GDR.
By the end of the novel, I was very much uninterested in Hans’s fate that’s for sure.
