My new neighbor, a 20-something young mother, is the absolute sweetest, but the first time we met, she asked if I was retired and when we were chatting today, she asked if I had grandkids, and man oh man, I know she's not meaning anything by it, but my vanity is taking a *hit*.

so far, we're at about 150 fiction subs (capped at 500) and only 12 nonfiction (also capped at 500). Presumably the essayists are just being dramatic and waiting to make a splash right at the close of the window

Yesterday was the 4th birthday of The Heart Keeps Faulty Time. I’ve always been proud of this little book, and I am so happy to be a part of the @bullcitypress.bsky.social family. I’ve bought so many books from them, and every one is a banger.

On Thursday, I have the honor of interviewing Colum McCann during Weber State's National Undergraduate Literature Conference. To say I am nervous about this is beyond understatement. How do you talk to someone who is a profoundly great human being, let alone genius writer?

Resonated with this morning's Book Fight! on ambition. The writing career I have is not, perhaps, the one I imagined, and I'm certainly not on anyone's radar or making even the long lists for major awards, but I'm content, and that's not nothing.
