Enjoying a short holiday with coffee, a slice of Mom’s poppyseed cake, and the brand new new murder mystery by @sherrythomas.com. Sherry Thomas wrote Ravishing the Heiress, the book that first got me hooked on romance novels if you don’t count Jane Austen

Naina Kumar has published 2 contemporary romances in 2 years and I love them both. Flirting With Disaster is basically the perfect second-chance, falling-for-my-spouse story. I can’t wait for her third book to drop next year.

Participated in a release of young lake sturgeon into the Flint River, to restock the Great Lakes. Lake sturgeon are down to 1% of their original wild population — they can live to over 100 years and grow to 300 pounds. Many small fish were gently fondled and released today 🐟

Everybody was right about this one: it’s great. 5 stars from me. It’s got the wit and dialogue of Georgette Heyer without her problematic sides. The whole series is on kindle for 3 bucks rn

This one’s an absolute banger, with great dialogue, nice gradual character development, and a different approach to sex from any other open-door histrom I’ve read. Can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series.

Good Jane Austen variations, continued:

SEASONS OF WAITING by @christinamorland.bsky.social

All the reviews are like “holy god, this one is something special” and IT IS. Second-chance romance 25 years later, plus a bonus romance between two young people of the next generation. A top-5 JAFF for me.

Is Jenny Holiday capable of writing a romance novel that isn’t funny and emotionally satisfying? One man is on a mission to find out.
So far, no.

ONE-STAR ROMANCE
by Laura Hankin

I enjoyed it but I don’t think I’m going to remember much about it. Structurally it’s similar to When Harry Met Sally except they’re not very good friends. Well written, good supporting characters. 3.5/5⭐️

Who is the best Batman? That’s easy, it’s the Ghost of St. Giles.
#6 in the Maiden Lane series might be the best one yet in my humble opinion.
(Though I do love the one where the heroine shoots the hero during a robbery in the first scene.)

This is the book by the way. Judith Hale Everett has no superior in Regency romance right now imho, and Clare Wille is the perfect narrator, especially for this book—I love her voices for the blunt plainspoken heroine AND the ice-queen heroine

ONE LAST WORD
by Suzanne Park

I don’t like posting negative reviews but I had to DNF this one. Packed full of jokes and quips that were not funny (to me). Plus I’m not in the mood to cheer as the main character pitches an AI-powered app to VCs

THE KISS COUNTDOWN
by Etta Easton

Enjoyable! I loved the main character Amerie (and Vincent). Secondary characters were kind of flat and I was never worried for the main couple. Good smooching. 3⭐️/5
