This is so sad. Even though my field (high tech and cyber) is so far away from what Jane Goodall did, she was always a personal hero of mine for what she accomplished in life, her environmental + animal advocacy, her passion + energy into her 80s, and her ongoing optimism.

Climate change has put the coffee-growing regions of Puerto Rico directly in the path of repeated hurricanes.

It takes 4-5 years for a coffee plant to start producing fruit, and they don't start REALLY producing until year 7.

Younger trees are delicate and vulnerable to hurricane winds.

It’s Friday night. Turn off the news this weekend. Avoid politics. Have dinner with friends and family. Play board games. Go for a nice walk. Watch a romcom. Eat food that’s bad for you and terribly delicious. Ban nonsense from your weekend. Friendly advice. 💜

Not lost on me that it's nonprofit tech, app.watchduty.org, showing up & actually working in the midst of the LA fires (donate to them!)

Meanwhile platforms fail to surface key news, vital info is paywalled...

As I've been saying, we need a new tech paradigm, yesterday!

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the fires. I’m also relieved the Getty staff, buildings, and collections are safe. These are incredibly special places and the art invaluable to humanity
Thank you for the outpouring of well-wishes. As of today, Getty staff, the art collections, and buildings remain safe from the Palisades Fire.

The threat is still happening, and our hearts go out to everybody in Los Angeles affected by this awful tragedy.

I hope everyone in LA is staying safe.
In an abundance of caution and to keep roads clear in the surrounding areas, the Getty Center will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8.

Getty Villa will remain closed through Monday, January 13. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
Today, a brush fire started in Pacific Palisades fueled by extremely high winds.

At the Getty Villa, some trees & vegetation on site have burned, but no structures are on fire, and staff and the collection remain safe.

The Villa is closed to non-emergency staff and the public.
