I miss great conversations the most. You know the ones I’m taking about. The date would start at say, 7 pm and the vibes were vibing until 3-4 am. You didn’t want the date to end. In fact, we were all h**ny AF but still… the conversation was king and we didn’t want to ruin anything.

What happened?

I don’t know, man. Flirting used to mean fun banter and great vibes. It used to be people getting ready and finding a perfect outfit with the perfect perfume. It used to be all vibes and great fun. Like, sure let’s go try Ethiopian food (which is SUPERB, btw) and then go find the best tiramisu.

Led Zeppelin is *that* band. My favorite. (Led Zep III is where it’s at.)

Did you know they were the ones who introduced me to LOTR lore? It was this song. I was curious about who “Gollum the evil one” was and well, the rest is history 🙂

I was 12.

Sonny Rollins. Mainly because he is 95, and I'd be all Chris Farley with Paul McCartney on SNL with him. "Like remember that time you stopped recording and played on the Williamsburg Bridge every day? ...That was AWESOME!"
I asked this before over at The Old Place and the answers delighted me. So again:

Who is an artist you admire who you suspect would not like you if they met you personally?

I think Peter Dinklage is fantastic. I would absolutely get on his last nerve. He'd be looking for the door while we spoke.

And if you're not familiar with Grace Kelly (the saxophonist, not the actress), there's no better day than National Saxophone Day to go look her up on YouTube!

Happy National Saxophone Day to all who celebrate. Time to remember Adolphe Sax, who invented the instrument named after himself. (Of course, he also invented the Saxhorn, Saxtromba, and Saxtuba, but who among us has not named a whole list of instruments after ourselves in a quest for fame, right?)

There isn’t enough sex energy in music anymore. Songs don’t inspire a make out session and songs don’t have a nasty beat; it’s all so boring.

It was okay to be weird, super talented, and fun once upon a time and the kissing that went down was so fun. I miss it.

My dearest Clotilda,

Provisions have run low. The hardtack is at a precipice, as is fresh bread. Please churn some butter in that private way you’ve shown me by the hearth, your heaving bosom silhouetted in the soft glow of firelight—

Scratch that. Please send mayonnaise.

—Pvt. Eaton Beaver
Civil war letter excerpt:

"Throughout the fighting the fighting, all I could think of returning to you my dearest. As we were told to charge, we knew that most would not return. So many men fell beside me. The battlefield seemed endless.

I could smell the onions and mustard."
