Some signs I liked from the No Kings event in Lexington MA. I’m bad at crowd estimation but there had to have been a thousand people there, and that’s with a big rally in Boston happening on the same day.

This is fascinating. If it holds up — and if it becomes more affordable and insurances will pay for it — it would be a remarkable shift in how we think about a devastating disease.

The FDA is proposing to restrict COVID vaccines to those 65 and older or at high risk. This is dangerous foolishness. Here is a link to public comment. Please add your voice.
The comment period for this ends in 3 DAYS. Please leave a comment telling them EVERYONE should be able to get covid boosters.

Shared my poster for my master’s capstone today. Can’t believe how fast the last two years have gone!

I started rewatching the Ken Burns Civil War series. There are things that hit very differently now than they did 30-odd years ago. But I do think the ending of the first episode, with “Ashokan Farewell” underlying Sullivan Ballou’s letter to his wife, remains one of the more powerful (1/2)

My classmates and I spent one class today celebrating each others’ strengths. It’s a very strange time to be trying to start a new career, especially in a health field, but I couldn’t have asked for a better group to have gone through school with.

I am glad to see this.
Hi #GeneChat community! At the Journal of Genetic Counseling, we have finally published our editorial about the journal's stance re: the US government's censorship of science as it relates to our field. Please read and share.

Feeling pretty powerless on the large scale, so today I’m doing what I can: donating plasma and platelets at @bostonchildrens.bsky.social .

I will be in clinic, learning to help patients whose conditions can be diagnosed and discussed thanks to SCIENCE, so I won’t be able to attend. But I will be there in spirit.
WHERE WILL YOU BE IN 4 DAYS?

Stand Up for Science with us on March 7th, in DC & Nationwide!

Okay, so at the request of the lovely @trance.bsky.social , I'm going to tell a story about what happens when a shitty person is "just joking", and then discovers there are consequences.

Long ago, I was part of a Usenet community where, for reasons half-forgotten and half-cringeworthy, I called myself Valentine. That group has long since faded into the ether, though I’m still in touch with a few people from it. (1/n)

I spent all week being anxious about my cat, who had a medical thing. She’s fine now, which means I am finally actually freaking out about what’s happened to this country this week.

One of my classes this semester is on ethics in genetic counseling. Gonna be a lot to talk about, methinks.

For those targeted by all this crap: I’m here if you need a place, a meal, a shoulder, money, whatever. If I know you and you need private contact info just ask.

So happy with the second meeting of our non-traditional #geneticcounseling students group! Lots of conversation about the unique challenges and strengths we bring to our programs and our profession.

Feb meeting (date TBA) will focus on self-care and how to keep going through the challenging days.

Didn’t get much else done today but I finished this puzzle. My local library has a free jigsaw swap shelf, which is cool. (Yay libraries!)
