We know that mobility in cities is about space. More specifically, more trips in less space. We’ve seen lots of great images reinforcing that point. This one might be my favourite, from #Santiago, because it ALSO shows the inequality of having buses run in mixed traffic.

Dedicated bus-only lanes.

There’s no less efficient use of space than designing our cities around cars first. It’s also elitist, as it punishes those who can’t afford cars, making them nothing more than an afterthought.
This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

I find this generational shift fascinating. While I personally find the CEO murder abhorrent, I can’t help but feel a bit of hope and optimism about what important stands Gen Z and younger will take on matters of equity, social justice and climate
New polling on American attitudes about the killing of UnitedHealthcare's CEO:

Overall: 68% say it was unacceptable, 16.5% acceptable

18-29 year olds: 40% unacceptable, 41% acceptable

70+: 81% unacceptable, 10% acceptable

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Enough is enough.

It’s patently clear that the herd immunity strategy DOES NOT WORK.

It’s just making us all sicker and sicker…

It’s time to change course.

We need prevention instead of ‘let it rip’…
In 2021 in England, public health decided that the way to get well was to get sicker, and that the way to get rid of disease was to catch it.
It's official policy.
They write it down and everything.

Since then...
