Things have been slow going as I try to gently dig myself out of this burn out hole, but I finally got to make some real progress with this piece! I'm closing in on the finish now...

Continued progress with the roadrunner today, after a day or two of being too worn out to do art. I've done a lot of experimental layers since the last WIP shot I posted, but it feels like I'm starting to dial in more closely now.

Back home from BLFC as of yesterday... Trying to take recovery slow and easy, but I'm glad to be fitting in some art time tonight and hoping to feel up to some fall garden work tomorrow.

🔸 Arroyo Coyote Tracks 🔸
mixed media painting

Painted after encountering these tracks while exploring the dry tributaries that feed into a river valley. These tracks were new since our passage the day before, further revealing how this vein of the landscape is an active wildlife corridor.

I switched over my higher Patreon tier from offering regular physical merch rewards to a once-yearly art request, since that's more manageable with how seasonal my lifestyle seems to be.
Here's the first request, for El of their maned wolf character!

A few favorites. The latter two will be for sale, and I'm going to try and make more like the first two soon!

Been getting into ceramics some this year (when I can manage to steal the time for it), finally got a big batch of pieces that I'd been sitting on for a couple months finished up!

Pretty happy with a lot of these, gonna do a store drop for a dozen pieces from this batch on Patreon soon.

Went on our longest camping trip yet recently! Here's a piece I'm working on finishing up from it, based on a photo I took while exploring an arroyo.

A simple piece I did to experiment with some different mediums and how they would interact. I think this had various layers of acrylic gouache, posca paint pens, and wax pastels.

From my February 1-hour coyote studies, here is Coyote #1 and Coyote #17 (the final study). I sure did learn how to work way more efficiently and effectively!

I have just a few of these originals left: sasharjones.com/store?catego...

Got to take photos this morning now that it's finished! Patreon supporters get first dibs prior to Anthrocon, but it will be for sale at my table if no one picks it up before then :>

A year or so ago I had Eric print me up some tiny versions of his coyote mask, so I could plan my paint jobs out.

Turns out this is also useful for seeing what designs I've already done and seeing how I can make sure every mask I do is unique in a few ways.

Working on finishing up a new mask collab with @ericstrother.bsky.social for Anthrocon. I have to finish the painting work tonight for it to be ready in time, but things are looking good!

🔹 Celebration Dragon 🔹 6" x 8" mixed media
Just a fun warm up piece I worked on here and there to break off some rust! I don't do primary palettes very often, but quite enjoyed it here.

🔸February 1-Hour Coyote Painting Studies 16 & 17🔸
The final two studies! I managed to finish these up just in time for the end of the month. This was a really great process to go through, and I look forward to doing it again with another species as soon as I can! I'm thinking hares next...

🔸February 1-hour Coyote Studies 14 & 15 🔸
I think these were my favorite two from the whole batch! Things just seemed to really all come together in a new way at this point, and I had found a more satisfying painting flow, too.

🔸February 1-Hour Coyote Study 13🔸
I think I finished this one a little early, since by this point I was getting a lot better at knocking in the initual drawing and knowing how to build up my paints! Really liked how the expression came out, too.

🔸February 1 Hour Coyote Studies 11 & 12 🔸
At this point it feels like things are starting to snap into place better! I'm also working slightly larger on these, roughly 4" x 5".

🔸February 1 Hour Coyote Studies 🔸
Managed to do three in one evening for these! Still figuring out my process on these, but I could feel things starting to shape up a little more.
June 11, 2025 at 11:03 PM
🔸February Coyote Study 7 🔸
This one was a little unusual- leaning further into the brushstroke stylization from the previous study and testing how far I could go with abstracting info.
June 10, 2025 at 9:59 PM
🔸February Coyote Studies 5 & 6 🔸
More 1 hour coyote studies! I had to go over on time with the green one due to not having a solid initial drawing, but took that lesson to heart for the rest of the studies and found much better success!
