I took this photo in Georgetown, DC walking to the Metro after a stressful work day in the midst of some deeply melancholy feelings and happened upon a winter lights art display at a local church which struck me for its simple yet powerful message:

"Every day we are slowly approaching a solstice"

With a new era in my career and in life comes a long-overdue chop. This represents more than a year of growth and change and trauma and recovery and I finally feel like myself again.

This year has been 1,000 years long. I began it in DC, moved across the country, got a job, met an incredible person, learned to hike and snowshoe, quit that job, and now I start the new year with a new, better job and a wonderful community and the best friend I could hope for.
