One of the things that gets lost in translation is how rhythmic & fun to read the prose of the original Journey to the West is.
Best way I can describe it is "Imagine if Dragonball was Written instead of Drawn"
Esp. when for most of its existence, this is how story would've actually been read:

Have to report in that I have been enraptured by the horse races as well.
(AKA. Have now seen Umamusume Cinderella Grey up to ep. 9 and the movie. They're actually quite good! Just solid sports stories)

Once you learn enough about even just "smaller" things like the Hays Code, CCA, or just reading Chinese artists' exp. dealing with CCP censorship, I think any person with moral standards should not only reject that kind of top-down censorship systems as any kind of option, but radicalized against it

I could post a lot about the different characters & scenarios, how this feels like the nexus-point of so many humanist scifi of the time, how it feels like a predecessor to even very recent works like Heavenly Delusion or Fire Punch...

Since I haven't seen anyone brought it up yet, Ishinomori's Ryu's Road manga is phenomenal. It's from 1969 & doesn't feel its age at all.
I feel embarrassed as a fan to have taken so long to finish this, 'cause this feels like an unshakable cornerstone work & thesis statement.

Oh yeah, I've also been watching the new Yaiba anime.
I had actually seen the old one as a kid so my expectations were low, but am pleasantly surprised that it's a focused reworking of the OG with decades of hindsight & passion.
Also these postcard memories in Aoyama's style is very classy.
