When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

NYC friends: this poor dog was almost on his freedom ride out of the pound when his foster didn't show up on him. He's now in danger of being put down. Do you have space in your home and heart to adopt him? ❤️

Also, lots of animals at this NYC shelter who need a home.

Had my cataract surgery today and have never in my life felt so much like a trussed turkey on an assembly line (doc & anesthesiologist were lovely but everyone had perfected the pretend-we-care routine). Made me nostalgic for my retinal surgery.

If you don't already own a copy of THE BIG REWIND or NEGATIVE GIRL (or haven't left a glowing review!) now would be a really, really good time to do so.

I could use the boost, financially and mentally.
Lost my job today. "Downsizing," as they used to call it. So if you need a writing teacher, editor or copywriter, I'm your girl!

In short:
* there is very little the author can do on social media to sell books
* the Good News Firehose is just as detrimental as the Bad News Firehose
* taking a walk >opening your feed
* if publishing is hard for you right now, you're not alone
* keep writing; we need your stories 14/14

The Edgars in NYC was really great until I got back to my table after presenting the award for best novel (yay, Charlotte Vassell) and discovering my bag had been stolen. Hoorah for the person who turned my locked ancient iPhone in to the NYPD at 4 am. Meanwhile, Marriott security is silent.

My book, BURN THIS NIGHT is a Kindle Daily Deal! Today only, the ebook is on sale for $2.99.

Check it out if you like twisty, character driven thrillers, appealingly messed up heroines, and the occasional bonus body.

So it seemed like a super clever idea to take a nonstop flight from Denver and maybe it was but the plane was four hours late and there I was at 4 am in the airport parking lot with a three-hour drive ahead of me and thank goodness for Vermont rest stops where I had a power nap. Home at 10 am.

Last day to save fifty dollars on Left Coast Crime 2026 registration; $299 now, goes up to $349 tomorrow. A great conference - consistently well organized and overall delightful. (Never mind that strange typo below on the header). leftcoastcrime.org/2026/Registr...

UK: fetch the cctv

India: break down a door

Norway: bring the sniffer dog

Australia: ask about the family feud

USA: read the case report 3 years later

More than a million people die on roads every year. Meet the man determined to prevent them
Almost 30 years ago, a revolutionary idea changed the way Europe regarded road collisions. It has probably saved countless lives but it's yet to be fully accepted by politicians.
