Assistant professor at Cornell Government. I'm interested in the relationship between traditional and state governance, strategies to improve women's participation in politics, & South Asian politics
Today my Non-State Governance class covered students’ choices of topics: pirate democracy and sovereign citizens. Highly recommend Peter Leeson’s book, the Invisible Hook! 🏴‍☠️ press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...

Iconic. "At Balthazar...waiters are coming around to every table offering free champagne to celebrate Zohran Mamdani, who soared to victory with a focus on the city’s affordability crisis. “We’re elated,” one patron called out. Nearby, a table just finished the $145 seafood tower."

Wrote a short article for @voxdev.bsky.social using results from my primary data collection. This article is based on a forthcoming @thejop.bsky.social piece where I argue that male migration is an under-examined pathway for female political engagement. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

I'll just take this moment to point out that the US Institute of Peace, just a few weeks ago, contained one of the finest concentrations of US expertise on India and Pakistan, and crisis management in South Asia.

I'll just note that these are the home pages of the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, and Bloomberg right now. Just stunning parochialism.

I’m halfway through a postdoc with @globalforum.bsky.social and SSA in Colombo 🇱🇰 under the theme of “exclusionary regimes, autocratization, and democracy.” Working on my book on traditional governance and the state, still researching women’s mobility, and watching cricket at every opportunity!
