It is so sad. Our current project is a Holy Well but the site has been metal detected for so many years. We had one person say that they had found hundreds of ampullae but had no idea where their own collection was! Thinks his wife sold it when they moved away. We haven’t found a single one ☹️

I was given a box of flint tools that a metal detectorist had collected over 30 years. Due to them not being ‘treasure’ there is no record of where they came from. He just kept adding to the box each time he found something he thought was interesting. I must post about them at some point!

Thank you! It worked eventually and has now flown off to the Editor for his approval! Celebratory wine and a quick break before I get another task tomorrow!

I think consistency. Only State schools have to teach it, as with everything else. I do like Scotland’s way of doing it, not just schools but every household. The first time I saw their household bits was in a holiday cottage about 7 years ago. It was a fascinating read!

Good point he made. Just as well it has been in the curriculum for quite a number of years. It was interesting trying to teach Rule of Law and Parliament whilst BJ prorogued and walked all over the system. The comments from 10 & 11 year olds is now funny to look back on.

in the last 40 years and was rediscovered again last week. I now have it. From land sales to court rolls to the dissension running rife, the story is there to be told. Another project has found me!

They evidently needed the room the records were in so deposited them in the cellar. 1947 a flooded basement and a lot of damaged records, mainly 12th and 13th century. It was then decided to catalogue and safely deposit them. The Catalogue came into our history Society’s possession sometime

In the 1800s the Manor was purchased by Colonel Hanmer and when he had built Stockgrove Park, the records were moved from the Leigh family home in Shropshire to Bedfordshire. This was some undertaking in itself! Unfortunately, 100 years later and war struck. Stockgrove was taken over by the Army.
