This morning was spent at our Remembrance Parade. I do not think I have seen so many uniformed groups as I did today. The town was packed. So proud to be a part of it! This year is a very special year. Will post about that later!

Lovely day on site today! Baby Shrew found in the wheelbarrow, a newt under a stone in a post hole, kingfisher flying the canal, and 2 fly pasts by WWII planes! There was some archaeology as well, though this was my only find of the day!

Hard to believe but this small babbling brook becomes a raging torrent. Newspaper reports from the mid-19th century point to the disasters it creates. Houses on one street had special blocks on the doors as flood barriers. Earlier this year it made headlines as people were evacuated.

Not really a #OnePlaceStudy day today as I am desperately trying to finish my book on the local (now demolished) watermill. Word processors not playing ball today. Need to send it for editing on Friday! Eeekkk!

I love being on the opposite side of the tow path of the Grand Union. So lucky to have a cafe on the old Wichello Wharf in Linslade. The cygnets came to say hello!

Out for the day in Aylesbury, with my youngest, as he has a job interview. Introduced him to a Wimpy! Had no idea they were still around!

Any brick experts know what this is? It is fairly small and has a lovely pattern on it! #OnePlaceStudies

First day of the school holidays!!

Our town was one that had a large Wilko store that has been empty ever since they went bust.

A few weeks ago our Society was contacted as they have turned it into an Arts and Community hub until the end of August.

Back down at the dig yesterday. It is so dry now we can start on the potential Holy Well area. Constant bailing needed but got this lovely broken piece. Now the issue of dating it. So if anyone knows anything about Willow Pattern china?? #archaeology

It was so hot on our dig site yesterday that the sheep became very brave! Unfortunately for them there isn’t much water left!

As well as written artefacts for my #OnePlaceStudy we also have a dig site which has been opened again, though the water table is too high to dig our main trenches, so a new one was opened. Whilst I was away they came up with this little beauty - identified as a hammer stone! #Archaeology

School trip to Whipsnade Zoo this week - dubbed the week of chaos!

Lovely day spent digging in the meadow. Had to open a new trench as our cottage one is still flooded. I am told we are in an extreme drought but nobody has told the water table!! #Archaeology

Lovely walk at Ashridge this afternoon! Very cold and cloudy, but worth it to see the bluebells!

Hard to believe it is still April! Earliest we have started a dig season, but how could we not be in a meadow on this type of day!

Super sunset in my #OnePlaceStudy

First day back on site. Enjoying the lovely weather in the meadow! #archaeology

AGM tonight. Fab talks, but also the release of our latest magazine! My first proper published article!! ‘The Dormer family of Wing - the role of women in Tudor times’! The recusant women of the Dormer family is probably a better title!

With the weather being amazing and on Easter holidays, what better way than spend the afternoon walking the canal!

Not been well so decided on a trip into town and a visit to the river and canal of my #OnePlaceStudy After being indoors all yesterday it was lovely to be out!

#FindsFriday This was found on an old pilgrimage route. Lead, measuring 6.5cm x 5cm. No idea what it is!!

Just when you think your book is finished and ready to go to editing, someone finds something else!! This is amazing though. The mill I am writing about purchased Thorne’s in 1951. The mill produced pre-packed flour. This was discovered in a box given to our Society! #skystorians

Life has been really busy lately so no research. However, I managed a walk along the canal this afternoon for #OnePlaceWednesday The canal and river with St Barnabas Church and the entrance to the old Charity Wharf on the canal.

#OnePlaceWednesday as I am not working today (half-term) I am trying out the 3D mapping in Blender so I can remember how to do this!! I want to change the colours around as the red is low lying ground and yellow higher, but no longer have the file. My OPS is on the left hand side.
