But wasn’t the maintenance loan part means tested? They’ll need the full loans for tuition but we have to pay towards the maintenance loan

Eldest’s school (where I’m a trustee) has over half the kids going on to very well paid degree apprenticeships, mainly in engineering, as the financial impact is so different. But I don’t want the decision on next steps to be about money

Did you find it affecting where you were encouraging them to go? I want to keep all options on the table but the difference in living costs around the country are vast

I’ve told them that if child 1 takes a gap year, child 2 will have to too as can’t afford more than one there at once. I feel so stupid that I didn’t know about this

I was so naive. I thought student loans covered the lot. Only found this out last year. Just relieved I have 3yr+ gaps between the kids as couldn’t have more than one at Uni at once

I thought we had freedom after this but I just hadn’t clocked the means tested bursary bit of universities so if all three go we’re back to over £75k spread over ten years 😬
