my husband and I are rewatching season 1 and it's actually kind of painful how good it was at the beginning. (and 100% agreed about the small talk potential, it was SO nice)

(for those who aren't familiar, HEOR is pharma consulting for people who like economics, statistics, programming in Microsoft Excel [sometimes], communications, talking to doctors and [sometimes] patients, and learning about drugs and diseases, but don't want to do any of those things all the time.)

this was in 2012. since then, more universities have started offering HEOR-related classes and/or grad programs, so today I doubt I could wander in off the street (metaphorically speaking) with a BA in economics and a dream in my heart (gainful employment).

“When I talk about the movement for social justice, I am not talking about what some or all Social Democrats are *doing*; I am talking about what they *want*.”

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

like i don’t understand what solutions to these problems look like that don’t include remaking or altogether replacing the democratic party. i haven’t seen a single articulation of one at all, let alone a convincing one. it’s not sufficient but it is necessary
