And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman.

Not even a protest. Padilla is the ranking member on the senate committee that has oversight authority over the DHS's immigration activities, including CBP and ICE. He was fulfilling his constitutional obligation to demand answers from the DHS secretary, in a forum where questions were anticipated.
