Last year, UC administrators violently destructed the Palestine Solidarity Encampment on the UCLA campus due to its speech content. Thankfully, in an early win for students’ rights, a judge recently allowed our case to proceed.
BREAKING NEWS: A judge this morning allowed the lawsuit by @aclusocal.bsky.social & Walkup Melodia against the UC Regents on behalf of Palestine solidarity activists from UCLA (2 students and 2 faculty members) to proceed, marking an important preliminary victory for student speech on CA campuses.

The Supreme Court this week allowed the State Department to enforce President Trump's anti-trans passport policy while our lawsuit challenging his executive order moves through the courts.

We'll keep this page updated as our legal experts learn more.
Q & A: Orr v. Trump | American Civil Liberties Union
Following a January 2025 Executive Order from President Donald Trump, the State Department began barring people from obtaining passports with a sex designation on them that is not the same as their sex assigned at birth. In response, the ACLU filed a federal lawsuit challenging the State Department's policy on behalf of transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people.

This administration's playbook is as cruel as it is obvious.

We are seeing the same attacks on free speech and public dissent when our community members protest and document the ICE raids across the southland.

Attacking protesters and journalists doesn’t work in L.A., and it won’t work in Chicago.

The Trump administration sent federal agents to an ICE processing center in the Chicago area to brutally suppress protesters and the press.

No one should have to fear rubber bullets or tear gas for making their voices heard or reporting on protests.

All of us are a bad break or a twist of fate away from living on the street. Criminalizing homeless is a danger to everyone.
Last Friday, San Bernardino proposed an anti-camping ordinance that would criminalize public sleeping and camping in the county.

People who cannot comply with the ordinance would be subject to fines up to $500 per violation. Nonpayment could bar individuals from accessing housing, jobs and more.
