The analogy was meant to illustrate proportionality and the practical and moral need for restraint but I did something a little more one to one for you

Israeli politicians have referred to Gaza as a prison

What do you call it when people have no control of what goes into or out of the place where they live and are isolated from the outside world by a powerful opponent

K. I think people have the right to defend themselves against murderers. I don’t think that covers bombing hospitals that people who know a murderer go to
January 23, 2026 at 5:55 AM
(And to be clear I don’t believe that military action against a besieged population in the name of self defense is either practical or grounded in rights, but for the sake of argument let’s go with your premise)

Even if you believe that an entity has that right it doesn’t follow that you have to support a particular action it takes in doing that. I believe that people have the right to defend themselves against pickpockets but I don’t think that covers shooting them in the dick

Jewish Zionism needs a critical mass of active Jewish Zionists so anyone who is critical needs to be made an example of in order to discourage dissent, plus they’ve relied on identity politics so anyone who undermines their claim to speak for Jews needs to be rendered less Jewish

I think we’re largely in agreement but I would push back a little on that. There were for sure codified political statuses that were lobbied for by parts of the Jewish community. that said, in rabbinic Judaism what autonomy meant for a lot of people was being subject to clerical tyranny

Jewry survived emancipation but it did become more diffuse

Even then those customs were sometimes enforced with the sanction and encouragement of non Jewish rulers, plus the non Zionist secular Jewish autonomous movements were trying to find a space within a region composed of autonomous ethnic groups, which is very different from the US

? “Quixotic” is barely even criticism. The way Schumer is speaking there makes it sound like taking Greenland would be a good idea if it were possible.

He’s pro mask, pro vaccine, sympathetic at least to blm protesters, anti-trump, was against the war in Iraq and pro gay marriage when those views were not super widely held, and got fired from the wwf for trying to unionize. He’s far from perfect but far right doesn’t ring true for me

What has he done that indicates to you that he is way on the right (at least as far as how that is understood in America today)?

Napoleon’s proto Zionism imo was motivated by the same kind of ideas and interests (biblical shit, desire to control region by proxy) as the support for Zionism by Balfour et al but I don’t know if you can draw a line between them cause and effect wise. Would be interested in any info on this tho!

I’m not saying they are making any real effort, (they aren’t), just that the law is not explicitly targeting Palestinians exclusively (which is not incompatible with a reality in which it is targeting them close to exclusively), and I’m not seeing anything about explicit exemptions for Jews

A bit confused here. Everything I’m seeing is saying this is a measure directed against Jewish extremists, at least partly to replace administrative detention, which is no longer used on Jews. www.timesofisrael.com/idf-oks-trac...

I read those series when I was in either middle or elementary school and started hiding the books under my pillow because of how sexually explicit they got. I just wanted to know what happened next. Still not sure how I looked the librarian in the eye.

To clarify: people point to the German case to argue that American Jews, who are more assimilated than the German Jews were, are in a similarly precarious position.
