Wanna see something neat? I know you do!

An epic 18th century tartan Jacobite suit worn by Sir John Hynde Cotton (1686–1752). There are five—count 'em—five different plaids here!

Also, peep these epic trimmed buttons and buttonholes. Tassels? We got them all!

From the National Museums Scotland.

Really amazing account both of the 18th C Black scholar Francis Williams, and of Dr. Dabhoiwala’s sleuthing that led to a re-appraisal of the meaning of this portrait. (Significant page number of a book shown in the art! Dates of books shown on bookcase!) 🧪🔭

Favorite item from today’s museum visit:
1746 Church of Ireland Book of Common prayer, cherished by at least four generations of the same (presumably) Irish family in India.

Unfortunately, the Fort St George Museum offers little information about the book. Wish I could flip through a few pages!

c.1770 An old headstone of my mother's family. It exists within a row of other old family headstones in an enclosed cemetery in the middle of a field. 300 years farming in in and around the same townland. Now mapped, photographed and transcribed by Historic Graveyards Ireland. 🙏
