It is absolute whiplash as an American overseas scrolling Bluesky. During the day here, the news is mostly everything horrible that happened yesterday, and then America wakes up and just immediately starts throwing punches. 😩 I don't even need my world clock. I can just log on and tell it's morning.

News I’m somewhat late to but apparently the Indian Navy built a ship based on a fifth century painting and sailed it to Oman to recreate the trading route of the Indian Ocean in late antiquity.

INSV Kaundinya: Hand-stitched Indian ship arrives in Oman - BBC News
The ship, which has no engine and moves under square sails, retraced the ancient route in 17 days.

If someone doesn't send me one of these, I'm going to be so mad at you all.
Step into the romantic season with these very silly and very niche Valentines Day cards. Inspired by archives and archaeology 🩷🏺

THIS IS WHY WE NEED THE OXFORD COMMA
It’s true this guy is the leader of antifa but he gets his marching orders & funding from me, jane Fonda and harry belafonte’s ghost
🚨 Documents leaked to me reveal a federal watchlist of American protesters suspected of being Antifa - including its supposed leader.

One Department of Homeland Security document says a 29-year-old resident of Portland "is the leader of Antifa":

We are all interconnected, our current political landscapes and human rights struggles directly linked to our histories. Our research is political. Our archaeology is political. *Everything* is political. Free Palestine.

One of my favourite dive bars to frequent way back when was named the Stork Club. The owner's mother collected fancy Barbie dolls and lined the entire bar area in their boxes. It was incredible. Alas, they did not have such a menu!
Okay, fancy people, who wants to join me at the Stork Club? I don’t understand why the toffs of café society like to be crowded into cramped tables like this. I blame my blue collar upbringing. As posh as this is, we can still get a full dinner for less than $3

The way I am so excited for both of these stories! 😍
If you're hyped for the forthcoming Francesca storyline in #bridgerton and need more sapphic historical stories to tide you over until then, may I recommend my books in the meantime—the sweet & romantic THE UNLIKELY PURSUIT OF MARY BENNET and the funny & sexy THE MISEDUCATION OF CAROLINE BINGLEY!

Gotta hand it to ya! 🗡️

Love stumbling across these little details while cataloguing. This shard is #medieval #stainedglass from the 16th century originating from a church site in West Yorkshire.

I am oscillating between delightful magical fantasy in 'The Guinevere Deception' by @kierstenwhite.bsky.social and deeply gripping textile archaeology in 'Textiles and Textile Production in Europe, From Prehistory to AD 400' edited by Margarita Gleba and Ulla Mannering.

Fun thing about living with a giant, plastered-over Georgian fireplace: when it storms, things still fall down into the chimney and skedaddle loudly through your "wall." 😅

Folklore has linked Cadbury Castle #Somerset to King Arthur for centuries

The ostensibly sober #OrdnanceSurvey once got in on this with an overtly definitive identification of the hillfort as 'Camelot'

So it must be true

(Please note, other Camelots are available)

I know amongst the chaos of *gestures broadly* this may get lost. But, my heart is beyond shattered. Saleh was a vibrant, unyielding flame. Just yesterday I was liking his posts about the ceasefire and watching him play with his cat. May his joyful spirit continue to embolden us all.
The beloved Saleh Al-Jafarawi has been murdered. We are absolutely devastated. For 2 years he reported on the genocide of his people, just for him to be murdered during the ‘ceasefire’
