Meet the new right side of the infield for the Pirates (against righties).
My pitch analysis has blinders as I only look at terminal pitch of PA, but 27% slider usage to LHBs is an easy cut. More curves and changes instead. Might help fastballs play up as batters start to sit on soft. A lot more to it so I defer, but this is what I see from my approach.

It's small sample so I would defer to stuff or pitch analysis in evaluating him, but from a performance standpoint he seemed to give up some hard contact vLHBs, while BB & K rates showed little change. Cut, split, change would help, some wonderful potential mentors if they're willing to help.

The recently traded Willson Contreras. He should hit well in the new yard as most righties do. Serious balance for a lineup tilting lefty.

It's pretty funny to see a guy who absolutely killed the shift see all his overperformance melt away once it was declared illegal. We have seen the resurgence of the lefty, pull hitter, but it has come at the expense of the shift-beater.

After he got ruined by a dirty Chris Coghlan slide, Akinori Iwamura's career was never the same. One of the last Devil Rays, and one of the best faces as the franchise turned the page. Salut

I only look at the terminal pitch of the at bat, but here's what I put together on Framber Valdez. It looks like he was pretty unfortunate on balls in play with the curveball, which is otherwise disgusting. Maybe predicability/familiarity helps batter or simply a blip. New team should try more SL.

I would rather give double the money and nearly double the years to Kyle Tucker. Both players have been dampened by injury, but Tuck is younger, has played a less physically demanding position & has been a far superior hitter. Age 32+ by primary position 3B & RF. Take RF to 29 & watch it balloon.

Unless you are the guy's agent (or in that person's pocket) it's laughable to assert that Alex Bregman is the "jewel of the free agent class". 100 wRC+ after coming back from devastating leg injury that has reduced LT capacity for many others before. Upside is 3-4 WAR in 26, downside is horrific.

The difference between Steven Matz and Adrian Houser seems smaller than the dollars they signed for. They produce in different ways, which may indicate the team feels better about getting righties than lefties as currently constituted.

If I'm interpreting this correctly, the strength of schedule for NE Patriots this year is 3.6 standard deviations from the norm. The likelihood of 3.0 is 0.3%. Pretty wild and that will go down after this upcoming game.

You'd like the defense to be there if it's the skinny part of the platoon split. Thomas seems like a nice buy low opportunity provided the price reflects that. He's gotten pretty beat up the last couple of years, but if his body holds up he should be fine in part-time CF duty. Useful, niche role.
