On the day of russian invasion of Ukraine, 3 years ago, a big march of support is going on in Tbilisi.

It started from the Ukrainian embassy and is moving towards the daily protest location infront of the parliament.

On the way, people stopped at the Taras Shevchenko statue.

Day 78 - and the protests are still going strong.

Major protests are planned on the 15th and the 18th.

After over 14km, the march from the city entrance finally made it to Rustaveli Avenue, which was already closed down by other protesters shortly before.

I’m proud of my people. It’s not an easy fight - as those that are worth fighting aren’t. But we have shown grit and tenacity. And we’ll prevail!

Several kilometers further, along Tbilisis main river, arrests were renewed. One of the arrested is former director of Georgia’s National Bank, Giorgi Kadagidze.

On the way, the city court building was heavily fortified.

As the long march began, spirits remained high, with songs, shouts and whistles (here the traditional anti-GD hymn).
With us were kids and elderly.

Police were following along, not letting us fully close the highway.
February 2, 2025 at 9:28 PM
As the police pushed back and their numbers became overwhelming, protesters decided to move to the parallel highway, which leads towards the city center.

As the situation started to heat up even more, a black SUV arrived, carrying internationally sanctioned GD ‘strongman’ Zviad Kharazishvili.

Scuffles broke out soon and arrests intensified.
Footage emerged later with him personally beating arrested and cuffed prosters. So much for ‘strong’…

Among the first to be arrested was opposition leader Nika Melia, who had his clothes torn off in the process
February 2, 2025 at 9:28 PM
As more and more protesters arrived and pushing further ahead, the OMON style special forces got their orders and started to arrest people.
February 2, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Seemingly in full panic mode, the illegitimate govt. adopted harsh laws 1 day before, declaring this highway ‘strategic’ with prison sentences for anyone trying to block it.

The situation started to heat up when a grp of people pushed forward to try and block it a bit further down.

Gathering location was a mall at the city entrance, where I arrived around 5pm.

Spirits were high and people were flooding in.

Though the police presence was already massive and unprecedented. It seems they were shipped in from all over the country.

Today was an emotionally and physically taxing day with protesters deciding to try and block the main artery connecting Tbilisi to western Georgian and it’s northern border.

Didn’t manage to post earlier as I just got home, so here’s a quick 🧵 for those interested

When a government is morphing openly and brazenly into a full blown dictatorship, restricting freedom of speech, physically assaulting kids, women and elderly and detaining critical voices - the response from the people will only be one:

Independent media outlets Batumetelebi and Netgazeti founder and director, Mzia Amaglobeli was sentenced to prison today. In protest, all TV stations not controlled by the govt. have temporarily stopped their broadcasting.

Meanwhile, far right government station POS TV is airing russian TV series

Day 43 and the protests are still going strong!

There were some earlier futile attempts by the police to not let people close Rustaveli avenue.

Tomorrow is an important date in Georgia, when president Zourabishvili’s term officially runs out.

Today however, was no less important, as we formed an endless chain of people along the river bank in Tbilisi, in protest against stolen election and freedom for prisoners of the regime

Some food for thought:

GD's resident boogeyman, fmr. president Saakashvili is freely doing very controversial statements daily from his 'cell' and looking healthier than ever.

All while people are being beaten and threatened by government sanctioned thugs for speaking their mind.

Coincidence?

The veterans march yesterday in their stride to the parliament was a sight to behold.

Sound on
December 23, 2024 at 6:55 PM
Today, Rustaveli avenue was PACKED as never before.

This was shortly before the president gave her speech and people were still streaming in anticipation.

Seeing these scenes, the illegitimate government, panicked, started to ferry in special forces and water canons on the other side.

Under the repressive pro-russian ‘Georgian Dream’ party, Georgia is rapidly turning into a nightmarish police/surveillance state.

Just on this one traffic light, I counted over a dozen cameras, with most of them installed after the pro-democracy protests started 3 weeks ago.

Day 15 and we are going nowhere!!

Despite almost freezing temperatures, Rustaveli Avenue is packed✊🏼
December 12, 2024 at 6:02 PM
Absolute traffic mayhem at around 18:30
December 12, 2024 at 2:38 PM
Mad respect to the IT sector employees who self organized today and paralized the whole city by marching trough all the central districts in Tbilisi ✊🏼

They now arrived at the parliament where they closed Rustaveli Avenue.
December 12, 2024 at 2:38 PM
At the parliament for the 10th day now.
One thing I noticed there are very few drones - those that fly are govt. drones as I’ve been told.

All others were brought down with special equipment by police in previous days.
