Rarely does one capture such a variety of colours in the aurora, the Rayed Arc "Curtain", filled the Western horizon for an hour, there was no real activity in the East.

I don’t generally chase rare species but if one lands right next to me, what’s a guy to do? A tara-iti (New Zealand fairy tern) at Omaha this morning. There are less than 40 individuals and only 9 breeding pairs left in the world. 🪶🇳🇿

I will never get tired of trying to infinitely inch closer to hummingbirds

I have a few food spots around county where the birds simply ignore me and go about their business

I will watched this male over a period of 20 minutes as I repositioned my self closer and closer…

Day 10 counting down my favorite images of 2025... Still all birds so far 😁

#51 the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas TX, was loaded with diversity and many subjects to photograph in March. Including this beautiful Tricolored Heron.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Least, here is a bird I’ve only seen once, the Orange-crowned Warbler (Leiothlypis celata) above Yaquina head along the Oregon coast. The Pacific birds are the brightest in coloration.

One of my #least photographed #birds is this wattled guan at Ucumarí Regional Park in Colombia, a bird I've only seen once. The guide was very excited to find it, and it was so far back in the trees that it took me half an hour of maneuvering to get a single decent photo.

A Toco Toucan evades a Great Kiskadee mid-flight in Brazil's Pantanal.
What many don't realize is that toucans are opportunistic raiders. They'll steal eggs and chicks from other birds' nests.
