A Mourning Dove closes its eyes before finding a place at the seed feeder this afternoon. The closed blue eyelid makes it look quite peaceful and serene.

Mourning Doves have a subtle coloration of buffs and browns with black spots on their wings and black wing tips. The bill is black and the feet are pink. They have a melodious call of coo-OO-oo which is highest in the middle.

Seen near Clarkston WA in May, American White Pelicans were along the Snake River, resting and preening in a group of about 30 birds. The impressive large birds are white with black wing tips, and large yellow bills and orange legs and feet.

A grey backed bird with a dark streak over the eye, and dark wing tips and black and white tail. The bill is thick, and doesn't appear to be hooked. The breast is white with a bit of brown patterning, at least to my eye.

The Brown Pelican can't match the wingspan of the American White Pelican - but it's still pretty impressive at around 79" (201cm.) The white's wingspan can be 108" (274cm.)
