Posting a cuddle puddle of the (spiny) rat pack variety. I count five nutria here, seen along the canal at Ridgefield NWR last week.

Nutria, classified in the family of Spiny Rats, are considered invasive, and I’m not a big fan. But they have been looking photogenic recently on my trips to the refuge. What can you do? 🤷‍♀️

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Least, here is a bird I’ve only seen once, the Orange-crowned Warbler (Leiothlypis celata) above Yaquina head along the Oregon coast. The Pacific birds are the brightest in coloration.

This little guy was singing his heart out, at the top of a small hill overlooking the Oregon coast. He was relatively bold about not staying hidden.

My photo blind was inside to dry after a rain and windstorm had blown it about the yard. The cats have been rather enjoying it, so I have left it in place for a few days. Oscar, who is a big brown tabby, is looking at the photographer with questioning eyes.

For one of our plainest butterflies, the cabbage white actually has some interesting color when seen up close. A hint of green on the wings, a golden head and marbled green eyes.

This looks like the Coyote I had called Ratty due to a pretty bald tail. Still missing fur there, but much better now; so new moniker, Jody-Coyote. Running onto the refuge from the nearby waterfowl hunting area and looking anxious about shotgun blasts.

I love the posture of this Sandhill Crane. As if it’s about to preach a mighty sermon and command the soil to bring forth its fruits.
All of these cranes have dirt on their bills from probing for good things to eat.
