The SANCTUM SANCTORUM COMIX logo of my blog is superimposed over a photo of my custom-made, comic-accurate EYE of AGAMOTTO (made in 1987, sculpted with "Friendly Plastic" over a bisected MadBall, and covered in faux gold-leaf). It is permanently attached to a gold chain. Today's DOCTOR STRANGE garment:

TRUTH:
This is a woman's (or girl's?) garment. Size XXL (which is nearly form-fitting on me - so a men's M).

I don't think it was (or is) available in men's.
Not a MEN'S shirt. Size XXL Colored only in pale blue and hot magenta (the shirt provides the black) It's a nice design and color treatment. Cover to A+X #15 Art by: Greg Smallwood DOCTOR STRANGE & THE BEAST I recall not liking this issue. If I recall... they had to switch skill-sets to save the day. So... hey, Beast! You learned magic in a day. Easy-peasy...amirigjt? Ugh

First seen at SDCC in 2016, this design has been used for DoctorSTRANGE graphics & merch.

This is one of two in my collection.

Forced to take today off to get my car fixed (the repair shop I trust not open Saturdays).

Looking at about $1,000 bill (on top of $500+ already spent on tires) AND the loss of a day's pay. 💸

But that doesn't hit my limit for pain & suffering so I brought THIS HORRIBLE BOOK to read.

It's SO BAD!
I've written a couple of times before just how AWFUL the writing is in this book. I got it over a year ago and just can't bear reading more than a few pages before tossing it aside for months on end. But I need to rid myself of it, so the only way out... it's through.

I will almost always post the cover to DOCTOR STRANGE 169, as it is my favorite cover of all time. However, there ARE other covers I love, such as this one for MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE #1 starring THE THING vs MAN-THING! It's mostly the coloring that grabs me, plus the fact that MAN-THING was popular enough back then to feature in the debut issue of a promising new title. This cover also has my favorite cover treatment, which was the style at the time, of CORNER CIRCLES, instead of boxes. I prefer the circle.

What's this?? ANOTHER Kevin Nowlan design in my "disappointment week" showcase?!?

Trust me...it's NOT Nowlan that disappoints, it's the print quality of this shirt showcasing the cover to DOCTOR STRANGE v5 #11.

But there's another...

T-shirt by WE LOVE FINE with the cover to DOCTOR STRANGE v5 #11. The print quality of this shirt is appalling; the black line-work all blobby and crude. Not at all the fine, detailed work as shown on the comic cover...OR... the other print of this shirt! You see, WE LOVE FINE used to list various shirts on their site for limited-time windows of availability, so you had to order fast. This one came up and I only ordered one - for the collection (most likely I was broke at the time). My Doctor Strange tshirt collection has literally several hundreds of different designs. But I try to order XL for the collection (as that's the most popular size when the time comes for me to retire and sell it all). If I LIKE an item, I buy TWO, but one in Large, to wear (I'm actually a Medium, but I like my shirts a bit baggy). However, I really am not a huge fan of the JasonAaron-era costume, and didn't get one to wear. Until it arrives and I saw how GREAT the shirt looked! THAT print run was crisp and perfect! Excited, I tried to order another to wear, but it was too late. A month or so later the design came up as a solicitation in the Diamond Previews catalog and I ordered one. I was happy...UNTIL it arrived and it was this blobby mess. I contacted WE LOVE FINE, but they shrugged and said they couldn't help. So then, I needed to find a crisp one, to wear, on the secondary market. Which I did (sort of. I could only find another XL. I STILL desire to find a Large). BUT... then the collector-monkey on my back whispered in my ear that NOW I had to find another blobby print FOR THE COLLECTION! (Which I did. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) With a design showing DOCTOR STRANGE half-perfect, and half-beaten, with the Sanctum AND logo each having halves pristine and destroyed, it is the perfect expression, and I wear these shirts when I'm feeling all beat up from life (work usually). I wear the Blobby One when I'm feeling particularly badly done up, as I have this week. DOCTOR STRANGE v5 #11 cover art: pencils, inks, colors by KEVIN NOWLAN. HALF the image is Doctor Strange in perfect, classic mode: powerful and at the ready! The OTHER HALF shows Doc beaten down, battered, bedraggled, and bandaged. The Sanctum Sanctorum AND logo are likewise of a dual nature and appearance: Pristine and ramshackle. Crisp & clean and taped together. Half brightly colored, half dark and bleak. A perfect metaphor for life.

I lost almost an entire day.
Grocery shopping at 8am (I'm up at 2:30am to feed cats). After returning at 10am, had a quick lunch.

I then went into a room to visit 1 of the cats. Immediately fell asleep for a few hours.😸

Awoke (only because I had to pee) & fell asleep with another cat until 4:30.😼

But I 😍 almost everything about today's. Almost.
The cover to DOCTOR STRANGE v4 #15
Kevin Nowlan art is fantastic! The print job is sublime (a 2nd pass over it prints the eye).

Another WE LOVE FINE edition tshirt. This time featuring the cover of DOCTOR STRANGE "v4" #15, with art by Kevin Nowlan. I love this shirt and this month's entire shirt exhibition started because I was digging through the stashes of shirts looking for this one. The art is great, the print job is fantastic! The shirt printer has seemingly printed the Doc figure, and then went back over it and superimposed the Eye over it, whey various levels of opacity. Stellar job! So what the heck is my complaint?!? That "costume". During the Jason Aaron run of Doctor Strange (which I HATED), he has an anti-magic army invade and destroy all magic on earth. Ok. Fine. Doc is nearly powerless. The Cloak of Levitation is torn to shreds. Things look bleak, as only a scant few items still possess power. So Strange rocks up wearing this killer Cloak and cross pendant. Why? What do they do? I can understand Doc not wearing his old, OG blue Cloak. Maybe. I can think of reasons why he wouldn't. Not that any were ever given. However, neither was any reason given for why Doc donned this Cloak. What did it do? Did it offer anything positive to Doc's war when the invaders? Jason Aaron doesn't feel any need to give any backstory. At all. That's it. That's my gripe This shirt reminds me of crappy writing. DOCTOR STRANGE "vol 4" #15 Doc trapped inside a translucent, Giant eyeball! Just look at this beautiful cover! Kevin Nowlan, folks! And I'll bet anything that he colored it too. 👏👏👏

Today's DOCTOR STRANGE garment:

Keeping with the theme this week of disappointment in SOME aspect of the design is THIS tee featuring art by Dave Cockrum (pencils) Tom Palmer (inks) taken from the cover to the 1980 Marvel Calendar

The cover was cool but this pose of DOC just doesn't do it for me.
MASTER OF THE MYSTIC ARTS: DOCTOR STRANGE with art by Dave Cockrum and Tom Palmer. My primary dislike is the stance; look how splayed his legs are. Go ahead... try to achieve that stance with leg distance. That's just a ridiculous distance apart, which would reduce his overall height to nearly a squat, but with nothing to give scale, he still seems to be standing tall. Essentially, it's like two different scale bodies, upper torso of one, lower torso and legs of another, larger person. But also, coloring: they obviously had access to richer yellows and orange... look at the base he's standing on. So, WHY is his sash colored the same light red as his Cloak? So it blends right in, instead of standing out as a bold design element. Then, there's how they "centered" the design on the shirt. Since his Cloak flows out to the right of the shirt, they centered the entire image which then puts the logo off-center. Since that was placed evenly above the base design. I spent all day trying to twist the shirt on my body so the logo was centered under my neck, and not off to the left. The OCCULT WORLD of DOCTOR STRANGE Marvel Comics Calendar for 1980. Front cover - Dave Cockrum (pencils) Tom Palmer (inks AND colors) This cover is GORGEOUS! His pose works slightly better here, as Doc is stepping from one sphere to another. It still fails in perspective, as his left foot should be a lot further back, if those orbs are solid and is one behind the other. The inherent problem of drawing 2D figures in what is being attempted at a 3D environment. All relatively minor nitpicks, but the figure has always disappointed my sensibilities.

As I dislike the Doctor Strange figure on yesterday's shirt, so do I too dislike this figure.

The reasons? Twofold:

Funko Pops are a plague.

The shirt (like the early figures) has brown hair. Doctor Strange has black hair with silver at the temples.

Otherwise ok

Today's DOCTOR STRANGE garment:
This T-shirt with a pseudo-reproduction of the cover to MARVEL PREMIERE #3.

I've never been a fan of this cover.
The vignettes are great, as they are near identical panels of what's inside, but that main figure is meh.
Not Barry Smith's best work.

The story is good.
Nearly perfect reproduction to the cover of MARVEL PREMIERE #3 It's DOCTOR STRANGE 'S first solo issue back after giving up magic at the end of his 1960s series [and the events of INCREDIBLE HULK #126]. Doc would have also returned in MARVEL FEATURE #1 alongside the DEFENDERS, but this is a chance at a solo book again. This issue, despite my misgivings on the cover would set Strange in a broader, darker path, as the series set the scene for a dip into eldritch, Lovecraftian horror; a perfect fit for Strange. Barry Windsor-Smith does wonders with a slightly better-than-basic Stan Lee plot. The ACTUAL cover to MARVEL PREMIERE #3. You'll note that it's DR.
