Indeed. The reasons why football and hockey (ice, then field) are the greatest sports is also why they are the silliest: that they are the only games where you can be properly robbed.
football is a very silly sport

Maybe cricket journos should start asking Stokes what negatives he’s going to take from these performances.

Slightly problematic trend forming
Men: Aus 2015 in Aus, Eng 2019 in Eng, Aus 2023 in Ind
Women: Eng 2017 in Eng, Aus 2022 in NZ, Ind 2025 in Ind
If we count NZ as Aus (sorry to NZ), it's both worryingly big three and home dominated. Only Travis Head, and about 15mm, has prevented a full house
India have won the World Cup in India, it felt inevitable 🏆

Harmanpreet Kaur takes the winning catch and Shafali Verma who was only called in for the knock out stages in the hero of the match

I understand the need for "time at the wicket", but does 11 runs required really count? Feels like you can get out, but not face enough balls to feel comfortable so no real benefit 🤷
To be fair, I've never faced more than 25 balls in an innings so have no idea

Meeting India in the semi finals would be a pretty poor reward for beating Australia and New Zealand in the next two games.
After a slightly deeper look, two very complex games ahead for England. With Aus v SA on Saturday, Eng vs Aus on Wednesday becomes "who wants to play India in the semis"

They are to be congratulated for making top of the table with three to play appear so precarious

sorry, the British people can be (roughly) right? We should do this more often.
Probably a broken clock situation here.
A nation of inbetweeners: Britons tend to recall being neither cool nor uncool when they were at school, following news that The Inbetweeners is set to return to screens

Cool: 10%
Uncool: 32%
Inbetween: 49%

That Davina Perrin innings is still shocking me.
Latest: no Hundred innings longer than 17 balls has ever had a higher strike rate www.espncricinfo.com/records/trop...

A Buttler-Klaasen partnership is (quietly) level with a Kohli-de Villiers (RCB) or Tendulkar-de Kock (na). One may question the Hundred, but lets enjoy the best of it.
A pair of fifties from Buttler and Klaasen gave Manchester Originals the platform for a 54-run win over the Superchargers 💪

In all seriousness, if Wiegman doesn't qualify for citizenship, then none of us do.
Sarina Wiegman has to be the first coach to win a major football tournament three times in a row?

One day someone will look at the big picture.
Joe Root averages more in matches against India when Bumrah plays.
India have a worse win/loss record when Bumrah plays in away matches*.
*no point analysing India's home record, too many wins.

Okay, didn't realise this. He's still ridiculous, but his stats are helped by where he has played. He's only bowled in 87 innings, 60 of those in seamer friendly countries!

didn't want to curse him, but that hundred does ruin a potential claim for Pope. He was nearly at exactly one century against all opponents 🥲

an inevitability
A match-winner with the bat and simply magical with the gloves - one of the finest wicketkeepers of all time.

So glad I brought a TMS-friendly device to work.
12 years after her debut, and opening the batting for the first time in six years, Amy Jones bring up her maiden international hundred 💯

A special moment for the England wicketkeeper 👏

Precisely what would make (England) commentators happy? The criticism of the previous regime was an aggressive approach leading to people throwing wickets away, and now we're not content with players building an innings?
Same accusation was made of England's men yesterday, and they reached 400!

England last lost consecutive games to the West Indies in 2013. Real chance of a repeat now.
