Yes, it can be hard to imagine.
I think it gets easier to imagine when one watches what the country does and has been doing.

Perhaps there is new stage of evolution opening up. We have more opportunities to let go of antiquated linear (either or) thinking and have begun to realize there are layers of spectrum.

There are probably more options for solutions than I could imagine, but I do get the sense that many require infrastructure setup to a viable scale.
Iran has oil/money, China has the technology. Stuff gets setup very quickly these days.

I am of the opinion based on a small but articulate faction of well informed people, that China DOES NOT WANT "world power".
They simply want to no longer be repressed and exploited by other world powers.
They are not modeling after the US Raping Bully theme.
They just want better peaceful lives.

The aircraft carrier - the most powerful weapon of war ... right up until the hyper-speed missile was developed.
They are definitely safer and more impressive in parts of the worlds that don't have those missiles.
