Retired fossil fuel engineer, now moved on to energy for the 21st century.
In Anchorage, AK I looked into installing a heat pump. Because of the high cost of electricity, the heat pump would increase my heating bill by about 1.6x, even though it would "consume" (via power generation) only about 60% as much gas. Good example of how bad utility policy drives bad outcomes.

Nothing is impossible. Some things are expensive.

Tis but a scratch!

Unfortunately with what is now known about emissions from gas stoves I think they have joined the ranks of incandescent bulbs and cigarettes; even if brand new the right course of action is to throw them away.

The challenge is getting costs under control. Maybe SMRs can do it but everywhere else you scale up to reduce costs...but with nucs it doesn't seem to work.

For outage resiliency consider an EV rather than a home battery. More expensive but you get full use of it the 360 days/year when you don't have an outage. Plus a lot more storage. F150 battery is 10X the size of a power wall. And you can drive it somewhere and recharge if outage is long.

He's looking more and more like Boris Johnson.

Or open primaries and ranked choice voting.

It is. Still increasing in absolute TWH but gradually declining in percentage terms.

So what if you have a circuit that has 3 daisy chained outlets. Could you blind off (or remove and bypass) 2 of the outlets and dedicate the remaining outlet for the solar? Would that satisfy the requirement that generation has to have a dedicated circuit?

Why not do this by putting in standard 115V outlets at each parking spot. Then the load is self-regulating and you don't need an app. For most people in an urban setting the range added overnight at 115V is plenty for routine driving. Put in a few 240V outlets for when people need extra range.

Would expect to see that kind of price spike in hot summer or cold winter. Were there other factors driving it? Outages?
