Re: Keir Starmer: “but you can't admin your way out of unpopularity”, @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social Sept 2025

Love that - so on the nose👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Which means digital ID - a system for tapping everyone in and out - is the proposed solution, but you can't admin your way out of unpopularity. For very different reasons, neither the libertarian right nor the more inclusive left want managerial authoritarianism.

I really hope the Starmer speech on patriotic renewal is better than this summary of it, which basically argues that New Labour and the Tories let in too many immigrsnts but this one is going to give you a youth club instead so please don’t vote Reform www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/f9444c6...
The Left ignored immigration fears for too long. It’s time to give communities back control
Only a plan for patriotic national renewal led by Labour will counter the rise of the populist Right

‘What would Orwell think’, Musk had on his T-shirt. My guess is he’d think Musk is a master of Doublespeak. A man who bought his own Ministry of Truth and embodies some of the nightmarish developments he anticipated.

When I finish a book, I sometimes take a deep breath & hold it close to me… hugging it, knowing it will stay with me. I feel I know the characters & their lives, & in the days to come I’ll catch myself wondering how they’re doing.
This is one of those books.
