holy crap, solar panels are productive! even in Brooklyn

our electric bill for all 2024, for an entire house:

$499.29

($240 of this is the monthly connection charge, so: only $260 for actual electricity)

installed in 2018, the panels amortized last year, so now it's just crazy-cheap juice

I finished season 1 of Silo this week and I’m still intrigued! I appreciate the balance of the world-building and the answering of the mystery box questions. I’m tempted to start reading the book series.

Every day, I’m surprised by how surprised I am at Twitter’s latest efforts to kill its own service.

I’ve caught up with the latest episode of Silo, which adds yet another feather to Apple TV+’s cap. The streamer is definitely one that people are sleeping on. The only service I stream more titles from is (HBO) Max.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is my favorite film of 2023 (so far) - the animation is incredible/inventive, the story is packed with heart, and (mostly) doesn’t lose focus of its characters. After I watched it, I instantly wanted to watch it again.

Disney no longer moving forward with their proposed Lake Nona campus in Florida.

A new office complex, and relocation of a division from California, would have created more than 2,000 jobs but was scuttled as the company and Gov. Ron DeSantis continue to feud.

I’ve looked and there is no version, color, or design of Crocs that looks good or feels comfortable. I just don’t get the love some have for ‘em.
Alright I love you all but I will not stand for posting photos of Crocs on the timeline. We. Do. Not. Wear. Plastic. Shoes.

Asking for a friend - if you’re married with kids, how do you get away with playing some video games solo on Mother’s Day?

Reminder - we have 9 days until HBO Max drops the HBO and becomes Max.

(Checks notes)

Yep, Max is still a dumb name for the streamer.

I know it’s super early but I can’t wait to see what third party app developers do with their Bluesky apps. So far, I’m trying out @graysky.app and @moot.social

“Small businesses are accusing Twitter Inc. of stiffing them, even as company owner Elon Musk, who has a personal net worth of more than $150 billion, is saying the social network’s finances are finally on the way to recovery.”

Fuck this clown.

I have never watched a “Freevee” show before (I try to avoid ads at all costs), but here I am watching Jury Duty. It’s like The Truman Show filmed during a fake court case. Two episodes in, it’s hilarious and I’m hooked.

I welcome the principle of holding airlines accountable when they screw up - at the same time, they will 100% pass on the costs of all this to consumers with higher fares/fees. Yay?
The airline system is melting down, so maybe we could at least get paid
No airline currently offers cash compensation for delays.

It’s fascinating to see the structure around here be so fluid. The What’s Hot feed has a lot of potential but the devs have to do it right or it loses its fun (hotness).
👋 We just shipped some more changes to the What's Hot feed: more nuanced filters to keep this feed "safe for work" and we're only showing top-level posts here now.

As a reminder, this feed is temporary — we'll be shipping custom feeds soon for you to customize your own experience and what you see.
👋 We're changing up the What's Hot feed!

We've decided to not show some types of content in the feed (e.g. sexually explicit images). This content is allowed on the app, but since What's Hot has become the landing point for all of our new users, we're updating this simple placeholder algorithm.

I flipped open my NYT paper this morning and saw this beautiful Legend of Zelda artwork. More of this, less of the Liz Holmes stuff, please!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a nice cap to James Gunn’s run in the MCU. It’s ironic that it was Disney/Marvel’s initial decision to let him go that led to his DC work and ultimate departure from the MCU. Happy that we were able to see these stories on the big screen.

The studios will always prioritize their self-interests and it’s sad that the people who can’t afford the same pricey lawyers have to decide what to do in a dicey situation like this.
