A sidekick in search of a hero. I love musicals, queer pirates, and Beatrice Arthur. Hadestown stan. #stuckyforever
It's really fascinating to watch the good movie that could have been try to surface and show its face above the mess that's onscreen

Saw the current tour of The Sound of Music last night and it's wonderful. Be warned, there are only 10 nuns, including Mother A, but they sing beautifully. Two moments struck me in particular:
Rolf's line, "If he knows what's good for him, he'll come over to the right side" was chilling.
And...

I don't like slashers. But screenplay by Rita Mae Brown has intrigued, it does

My 2nd SK. Don't remember how old I was, but I'm thought it was going to be about adolescence, like Carrie. Everything about COUNTELPRO went right over my head and I found it confusing. I did notice King's trend of using gay slurs to signal a villain. That was pretty cool.

1960 Mexico City cast.
I only took a year of Spanish in hs, but not much has stuck (I was easily distracted by a football player)*. But i did remember a few things:
Amor = love
Boda = wedding
Linda = works in Human Resources

If you're looking for something to play in the background so you can focus on your work... SIX ain't it.

My 13th cast recording of EVITA!!! 2001 Copenhagen cast. Terrible arrangements. It sounds like someone's idea of what English rock must have sounded like in 1979 without listening to any of it. It's the Lars von Trier film of Evita albums.

I have seen/heard a lot of musicals based on a lot of questionable ideas. Sometimes they end up with gold (Evita, Pacific Overtures), sometimes not (that Donner Party musical). But the one I find most upsetting is Lolita, My Love. Several good songs, but Creep City

Stepping my way among the clutter (I was mid re-org when I broken mein hippen) to get to the movies was probably needlessly dangerous. But it was so worth it.

The big parade goes on for years
Naughty, gaudy, bawdy, sporty

Finally healed enough to reach movies.

Currently reading Bradford Ropes's original novel. May do a post on how different they are.

You know if you turn on the captions you can understand everything Quint says. Not just the USS Indianapolis monolog.

Finally! A copy of Geboren Vrienden of my very own!!!

That's Blood Brothers in Dutch. It's a musical I obsess over very easily, which means I'll be breaking out at least one more recording - prolly the one with @therealcononeill.bsky.social - before the week is out.

My mom is in the hospital (she's fine), I just had my annual review at work and my shrink is gone for the next two weeks.

Finished my taxes at 11 last night. It cost $35 to find out I owed the country $15 and IL $6. Probably could have done it myself as my assets are limited to the gayest sweatshirt in all of human history (if it was a gif, you'd see jazz hands)

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy pirate pants?

Two years ago today... Hadestown with Lillias White, Parade, and proof that not everything needs a t-shirt. Parade is a powerful show about the lynching of an innocent Jewish man. Reducing its sentiments to banal slogans was (and is) just so galling
