I often wonder how many of the world’s problems fall into the issue of, “we need to rapidly build emotional intelligence in an enormous, powerful demographic that has never needed it.”

I definitely didn't hit on everything I have to say about this topic.

We could (and should) talk about sanist ableism and intellectual ableism and lateral ableism and how ableist language works with all of them.

Also keep in mind I mostly know about English and talk from that perspective.

Part of why I don't have no-no lists for ableist language is that you can still express the same ableist values and beliefs with synonyms and long academic essays and all sorts of things.

I think of explaining about ableist language as a way to introduce people to recognizing ableism everywhere.

A lot of times talking about ableist language and slurs gets dismissed as memorizing a list of no-no words but honestly that's not why or how I talk about ableist language, because it's not really the point.

The point is how language interacts with behaviors and beliefs about Disabled people.
