I'm beginning to believe that BlueSky is a failure that won't take off. This isn't a stab at this platform but rather the acknowledgement that social media is dying, overwhelmed with bots, and not worth engagement anymore.

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.
