stagnate, and die

Disclaimer: The number 1138 is stalking me.
Dug up my c. 2010 Losi Micro-T tonight, to see if the battery would take a charge after several years languishing in a box (it did)

Apparently i added a driver to the car

The Wand of Watoomb!
Ancient mystical object that shows up in at least three Dr Strange/Spider-Man crossovers! (if I remember right, anyway)

I have no idea what it actually does, other than it brought those characters together.

being that we all (Americans anyway (except a couple places that don't)) time travelled last night, I watched a time travel movie tonight: "The Adam Project" (2022), where a time pilot from 2050 teams up with his 12-year-old self to stop their father's business partner from ruling the world.

tonight's movie is "Hollow Man" (1992), a sci-fi thriler starring Elisabeth Shue and Kevin Bacon, where Bacon is a genius asshole scientist that experiments on himself to become invisible, and when he can't turn back he becomes a rapist and murderer.

there's a Mexican seasoning brand called "Cholula" which I misread as "Chocula" which gives you an idea of where my head's at right now

tonight's movie is "Poltergeist" (1982) directed by Tobe Hooper, produced and co-written and story and apparently a lot of storyboarding and onset presence by Steven Speilberg

still scary after all these years, but some of the compositioning effects lose their um, effect in 4K resolution

Someone put the "Safety not Guaranteed" ad in the Lisbon Ledger (Maine)

[Disclaimer: this paper does a monthly phoney ad contest, which maybe this is it, but maybe not.]

I like that Ben & Johnny joke and bash at each other, but also have compliments and support, it's not like the relationship in the 2005 movie.

and Galactus was astounding. it made me think of the Moebius version (obviously darker in color than this image)

The sky is so white today (it's overcast) that it appears someone forgot to apply the background layer

also I read the book last week. It's illustrated; the author's robot design has the gangly arms and rounded head, but the body was more of a triangle.

the movie mostly follows the book, but Fink only appears twice, the Beaver helps with the lodge, and there's just 3 attack robots, not 38.

Have I talked about "The Wild Robot" ? I watched it again last night.
stunningly gorgeous animated movie. it's CG animated but everything is painted, giving it a depth and beauty you won't see in more "realistic" looking films.
Also, it's about learning to be a parent.

My current Clash collection, see Alt text for details

When I go back I'm probably getting "The Clash" UK track listing version, and "Give Em Enough Rope" cos I've never owned or heard it. Both of these have been on my wanted list, tho for digipak versions, which is weird cos I hate digipaks.

Coraline, which I'm listening to right now actually

Finished this book that I've been reading the last week or so.
Basically it's "what if the Scooby gang faced Cthulhu."
The writing is fun; the pretty girl's hair is anthropomorphized, sometimes dialogue is presented as a TV script, and there's meta commentary that won't translate to being filmed.

To celebrate Labor Day in America, I'm watching assorted movies about working! cos I like movies and I'm not working (this weekend.)

#7, third one yesterday, was "The Secret of My Success" (1987) where mailroom clerk Michael J. Fox tries to be in two places at once as he fakes being an executive.

#6, we go to "The Apartment" (1960) starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray!
(okay, romantic comedy, but work is the center of the plot)
