Farewell to Athol Fugard, a playwright of exceptional courage and commitment, who gave wrenching dramatic life to the ways apartheid warped and poisoned those who lived under it. He remains an essential reminder of the awakening possibilities of politically engaged theater.

This show, while I don’t love it, keeps returning to me. 2 years in a row I’ve been asked to direct this.

This play was my Covid production that got shut down. I got a tattoo of one of the key scenes on my leg. This unfinished project still haunts me.

Describe the Night was my thesis project for my MFA in directing. It taught me how to recognize propaganda, and how to survive authoritarian rule

Inspired to do this too.

After nearly three decades, a Minnesota summer camp for kids with HIV/AIDS is closing and up for sale... because retroviral drugs are so effective that there aren't enough campers.

Science works, y'all.

Closure of northern Minnesota camp is ‘the greatest story.’ Here’s why.

40 years ago today CARAVAN OF COURAGE: AN EWOK ADVENTURE premiered on ABC. Saturated in a bygone storybook whimsy, this STAR WARS spinoff is a charming oddity of the Lucasfilm dark age that I’ve always enjoyed. Everything down to the Burl Ives narration is spot on.

Yesterday my home was broken into and important things stolen. I am grateful that we are all safe, and that they didn’t take anything too big. It’s still several thousand dollars worth of loss. I am so shaken by the experience, but we have received an amazing amount of support from our community

I put up a little tree and some lights and I felt like a damn sim with the “well decorated” moodlet standing in my messy kitchen.

Sitting in the theatre before Wicked. Wondering who’s going to break first.

The excitement for this and Wicked are equal.
The new film of August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson" is streaming on Netflix. I fear that awareness may be low. It's part of Denzel Washington's plan to produce August's complete Century Cycle. Note: there was a TV film of "Piano" in 1995, with Roc Dutton & Alfre Woodard.
Wrestling with the ghosts of 'The Piano Lesson'
The August Wilson adaptation “The Piano Lesson" is an impassioned family drama but it is also a profound ghost story.

I hear they’ve announced sing along showings for after Xmas. I love to watch an audience interact with what they are watching. There was a sing along element in my most recent production of “White Christmas” and watching the audience play along is very fulfilling. I won’t be singing though.
I would hate to see “Wicked” like this, *but*: What it demonstrates so clearly is the strong desire to experience shows communally. It gives me a little hope about the endurance of cinemas and theaters as places to gather instead of isolating with our screens. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/m...
‘Wicked’ Fans Singing in Movie Theaters Are Anything but Popular
Some fans who have attended early screenings of the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical have treated it as a singalong. Not everyone is thrilled.

Feels weird to close a sold out performance. I am grateful for the experience. Time to rest before the projects stack up again.
