Wampum beads excavated this summer season at Ferryland, a very early 17thC settlement under an hour drive along coast west of St John’s. Amazing site for preservation of stone structures and evidence of wide Atlantic trade networks. #EarlyModern #Archaeology

The regional hub model is also bad -- universities outside the regional hubs get nothing, beyond what can be found through things like Collaborative Doctoral Partnership schemes. But the "Landscape" model is worse: only 50 universities have funding, at only 3 a year, across all arts and hums depts.
From next year, the AHRC will fund vastly fewer student-initiated PhDs, focusing more of its reduced funding on specific challenges. Critics say this will undo a decade of improvements in PhD supervision and limit opportunities to exercise intellectual autonomy. @jgro-the.bsky.social reports #PhDs

To help rebuild our community here on bluesky, we've put together a starter pack of UK-based American historians.

Follow along to see what scholars across the pond have to say, and of course do get in touch if you'd like to be added!
